Do the photos get uploaded anywhere?
No. The images are read and the .pptx is assembled entirely by the browser on the device — nothing crosses the network. That makes it appropriate for family photos, event pictures, and anything not meant for a stranger's server.
What order do the slides come out in?
The order the files were selected in. To control it precisely, rename the images with number prefixes (01, 02, 03…) before selecting them, or reorder the slides afterwards in any presentation app.
Why do portrait photos have margins at the sides?
Slides are 16:9 landscape and a portrait photo doesn't fit that shape without cropping. Fitting the whole photo and centring it preserves the composition; the alternative — filling the frame — would cut the top and bottom off every portrait shot.
How does a photo slideshow get music and transitions?
In the presentation app after download: PowerPoint's Transitions tab applies effects to all slides at once, and Insert → Audio adds a soundtrack that plays across slides. Google Slides handles transitions the same way via the Transition button.
