How do you turn a PDF into a presentation with AI?
Upload the PDF on the new-presentation screen and add one line saying what the deck is for. Slideso extracts the PDF's text, distils it into a brief that names the file as a source, proposes an outline you can edit, then designs every slide as editable elements.

Does it copy the PDF pages onto slides?
No. The pages are never rendered as images. Slideso reads the PDF's text layer with pypdf, hands that text to the model as source material, and the model writes fresh slide copy from it. Every heading, bullet, table and chart on the result is an editable object.
That distinction decides which tool you want. What are the limits on a PDF upload?
Each file may be up to 25 MB. The first 40,000 characters of extracted text are used, roughly 6,000 English words, and 120,000 characters across all attached files and imported pages combined. Uploads are limited to 60 files an hour per account.

These are enforced server-side, not guidance. The size cap is checked as the upload streams, so an oversized file never finishes writing to disk.
Will it work on a scanned PDF?
Only if the PDF has a text layer. A scan, a photographed document, or an export made of page images has no extractable text, and Slideso does not run OCR. Extraction returns nothing, that file is skipped, and the deck is written from your prompt alone.
The quick test: open the PDF and try to select a sentence with the cursor. If the words highlight, Slideso can read them. If the whole page highlights as one block, it is an image — run it through OCR first, since most scanners and PDF readers can add a text layer, or paste the relevant text into the prompt.
Pages are handled independently, so a document that is mostly text with a few scanned inserts still works: the pages carrying text are read, and a page whose extraction fails is skipped rather than failing the whole file.
Can I upload several PDFs for one deck?
Yes. Attach as many documents as the deck needs. They are extracted in parallel, so three PDFs take about as long as the slowest one, and each is capped at 40,000 characters before the shared budget applies — one long report cannot crowd out the shorter documents beside it.
Each file reaches the model as a named source, and the research brief lists it by filename, so a fact on a slide stays traceable to the document it came from. Mixed formats are fine in one generation: a PDF, a Word file and a CSV of numbers can all feed the same deck.
